Governance Story
A reading path through OGM's governance and stewardship history. Built around the Lionsberg-OGM MOU spring of 2021 — the most narratively-coherent slice of the wiki.
1. Why Lionsberg
OGM Bootstrap doesn't have its own 501(c)(3). To accept tax-deductible donations and run a fund, it needs a fiscal sponsor. Lionsberg — itself a 501(c)(3) — agreed to sponsor.
Read first: OGM Stewardship/Documents/OGM Bootstrap MOU/1. OGM Bootstrap-Lionsberg Memorandum of Understanding.md. This is the structural backbone.
"Lionsberg and Open Global Mind Bootstrap (OGM Bootstrap) would like to enter an agreement in which Lionsberg would become a fiscal sponsor of OGM Bootstrap."
Key terms: 12-month initial term, 5% admin fee on deposits, IP given over to The Generative Commons, quarterly reporting, mediation-then-arbitration for disputes.
2. The vision around the MOU
Read next: OGM Stewardship/Documents/OGM Bootstrap MOU/Appendix D - Larger, Evolving Vision Document.md (~7,200 chars).
Appendix D is the why behind the MOU mechanics — what OGM and Lionsberg are jointly trying to build. Note that this document is in Hidden Substance: substantive but no inbound links from elsewhere in the wiki.
3. Cultures and values alignment
OGM Stewardship/Documents/OGM Bootstrap MOU/Appendix B - Cultures and Values Alignment.md
The pre-condition for a fiscal sponsorship: do the parties want the same things? Appendix B is the explicit working through of that.
4. The Generative Commons agreement
OGM Stewardship/Documents/OGM Bootstrap MOU/Appendix C - Draft of Generative Commons Agreement.md
The IP terms. See The Generative Commons in this wiki for the broader thematic frame.
5. The Sprint 1 Statement of Work
OGM Stewardship/Documents/OGM Bootstrap MOU/Appendix A - Sprint 1 Statement of Work.md
What OGM Bootstrap commits to deliver in the first sprint. (Flagged as orphan gem — referenced twice, underdeveloped relative to references.)
6. The meetings around the MOU
The Stewardship/Meetings folder is the working trail. In rough order:
- OGM Stewardship Jerry + Pete, 2021-03-28 — pre-MOU planning
- Lionsberg + OGM, 2021-03-25 → 2021-05-20 — joint working sessions, weekly
- OGM Stewards Jam Sesh, 2021-03-30 → 2021-05-25 — internal Stewards work
- Jerry, Judy, Pete, 2021-04-09 / 04-10 / 04-11 — three-way working trio
- OGM + Lionsberg General Counsel, 2021-04-06 — legal review
- Lionsberg + OGM, 2021-05-20 — substantive (Hidden Substance)
7. After the MOU
The Stewardship Dashboard (OGM Stewardship/Documents/Stewardship Dashboard.md) tracks the post-MOU operational layer:
- Main website (Jerry + Pete on Massive Wiki tools)
- Managing call artifacts better
- Stewardship Bat Signal (
@channelin Mattermost[ogm] Stewards) - Re-formatting Thursday Call (diversity, time on the floor, federation)
- Quest Formation / Quest Architecture
- Launching first Quest: Food Security and Regenerative Ag
8. The first Quest
Meetings/Food Insecurity and Regenerative Ag, 2021-04-02.md is the first Quest-formation call. This thread becomes:
- Marley → Quick First Book — focused on food/bioregion/regenerative-ag content
- Klaus's NeoBook — soil and climate
- Bioregions and Food Sample Essay (root file)
9. After 2021
The Stewardship corpus thins markedly after May 2021. Possible reasons:
- Bootstrap phase ended; the MOU did its job
- Governance work moved to Mattermost/Notion/Google Docs
- OGM never spun out into a separate 501(c)(3) — fiscal sponsorship continued
This is one of the Roads Not Taken threads: did OGM consciously choose to remain under Lionsberg's umbrella, or did the spin-off conversation simply lose momentum?
